This policy explains the main information Moxie collects, why we use it, and the choices available to you. It applies to the Moxie mobile app, website, and related services.
1. Information we collect
We collect information you provide directly, including email address, password credentials in protected form, Google sign-in information when you use Google authentication, date of birth, display name, gender, interested-in gender, bio, country, country preferences, profile photos, messages, voice messages you record and send, reports, blocks, and support requests. If another account method is offered, such as phone sign-in, we may collect the information needed for that method.
2. Information collected automatically
We collect technical and usage information needed to run and protect the service, including sign-in records, session records, last active time, request metadata, verification-code attempts, rate-limit records, message read status, likes, passes, matches, usage quotas, and app interactions. Server logs may include IP address, request path, time, device or browser metadata, and error details. If notifications are enabled, we process a device notification token so we can send alerts about likes, matches, and messages.
3. How we use information
We use information to create and protect accounts, verify age eligibility, display profiles, make discovery and match features work, deliver messages, process reports and blocks, provide subscriptions, send service communications, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.
4. Authentication and verification
Email registration uses one-time verification codes. We store temporary protected verification records and attempt counters to verify codes and limit abuse. Passwords are stored in protected form, not plaintext. If you sign in with Google, we verify your identity through Google/Firebase services and may store your Google user identifier, email address, display name, and email verification status.
5. Profile visibility and discovery
Your public dating profile may include your display name, age, gender, interested-in gender, bio, country, profile photo, additional photos if your plan allows them, and other profile details you choose to provide. Discovery uses profile details, gender preference, country preferences, swipe history, block records, and account status to decide which profiles to show.
6. Photos and storage
Profile photos you upload are stored securely and linked to your account. We store photo links, display order, primary photo status, and photo update timestamps. Do not upload content you do not have the right to share. We may remove photos that violate our Terms or safety rules.
7. Messages, matches, swipes, and quotas
We store likes, passes, matches, message content, message timestamps, sender and match identifiers, read status, and daily usage quota data. Messages are visible to the sender and recipient. Messages may be reviewed if reported, if a safety issue is investigated, if required by law, or if needed to protect the service.
8. Microphone access and voice messages
We access the device microphone only when you press and hold the microphone button to record a voice message inside a private chat with a matched user. Recording starts only after this explicit gesture and stops the moment you release the button, tap cancel, or tap send. Recording is capped at 60 seconds. While a recording is active, the app runs a short-lived foreground service so the message is not cut short if the screen turns off briefly or another app temporarily takes focus; this service ends as soon as recording stops. We never record audio in the background or without your explicit action. Voice messages are encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS), stored on our servers linked to the match they belong to, delivered only to the matched recipient you sent them to, and can be deleted by you or by the recipient at any time. Stored voice messages follow the same retention and disappearing-message rules as other chat messages in that match.
9. Safety reports and blocks
When you report a user, we collect the report reason, optional details, the reported account, your account, and related metadata needed to review the issue. Blocking another user limits further interaction according to app functionality.
10. Subscriptions and Google Play
If you buy a subscription, purchase processing is handled by Google Play. Moxie receives and stores information needed to verify and maintain your subscription, such as product ID, purchase token, subscription tier, start time, expiration time, active status, and real-time developer notification data from Google Play.
11. Push notifications
If push notifications are enabled, we process a device notification token and notification content for events such as likes, matches, and messages. Message notifications may include a short preview of the sender's message. You can control notifications through your device settings.
12. Service providers
We use trusted service providers for hosting, database, secure photo storage, authentication, push notifications, email delivery, Google Play billing verification, security, diagnostics, domain services, and website delivery. These providers process information only as needed to deliver their services to Moxie and under our instructions where applicable.
13. Legal and safety disclosures
We may disclose information if required by law, to respond to lawful requests, to enforce our Terms, to protect users or the public, to investigate suspected abuse, fraud, or security incidents, or in connection with a business transfer.
14. Data retention
We retain information for as long as needed to provide Moxie, meet legal requirements, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, maintain security, and protect the service. When your account is deleted, we aim to delete or de-identify profile information, photos, matches, messages, blocks, reports, and other account data tied to your account, unless retention is needed for legitimate safety, legal, backup, audit, billing, fraud-prevention, or dispute-resolution reasons.
15. Your choices
You can update certain profile details in the app, delete or replace photos, change country preferences, block or unblock users, disable push notifications in your device settings, stop using the service, request account deletion, request support, or ask us about access, correction, deletion, or other privacy rights that may apply in your location. Account deletion requests can be made from the app or through the account deletion section on our support page.
16. Children and minors
Moxie is not intended for anyone under 18. If we learn that a person under 18 created an account, we may suspend or delete the account and related information. Contact us if you believe a minor is using Moxie.
17. International use
Your information may be processed in countries where we or our providers operate. Those countries may have privacy laws different from your country of residence.
18. Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. No internet service can guarantee complete security, so you should use a strong password and keep your login details private.
19. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to notify users through the app, website, or other appropriate means.
