This policy explains the main information Moxie collects, why we use it, and the choices available to you. It applies to the Moxie mobile app, website, and related services.
1. Information we collect
We collect information you provide directly, including email address, password credentials in protected form, Apple or Google sign-in information when you use those authentication methods, date of birth, display name, gender, bio, country, country preferences, interests, languages you speak and are learning, profile photos, voice introductions, travel plans, events you create or join, mood and radar sessions you start, messages and group chat posts, voice messages you record and send, moments you share, reports, blocks, and support requests.
2. Information collected automatically
We collect technical and usage information needed to run and protect the service, including sign-in records, session records, last active time, request metadata, verification-code attempts, rate-limit records, message read status, waves, passes, connections, community membership, usage limits, and app interactions. Server logs may include IP address, request path, time, device or browser metadata, and error details. If notifications are enabled, we process a device notification token so we can send alerts about activity such as waves, connections, and messages.
3. How we use information
We use information to create and protect accounts, verify age eligibility, display profiles, operate communities, events, and discovery features, deliver messages and group conversations, process reports and blocks, provide subscriptions, send service communications, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.
4. Authentication and verification
Email registration uses one-time verification codes. We store temporary protected verification records and attempt counters to verify codes and limit abuse. Passwords are stored in protected form, not plaintext. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we verify your identity through those providers and may store your provider user identifier, email address, display name, and email verification status.
5. Profile visibility and discovery
Your public profile may include your display name, age in some surfaces, bio, country, interests, languages, profile photo, additional photos if your plan allows them, and other details you choose to provide. Discovery and community features use profile details, interests, country preferences, activity such as waves and passes, block records, and account status to decide what to show. Some features are opt-in: for example, you appear in Moxie World only if you enable it, and mood or radar presence lasts only for the session you start.
6. Photos and storage
Profile photos you upload are stored securely and linked to your account. We store photo links, display order, primary photo status, and photo update timestamps. Do not upload content you do not have the right to share. We may remove photos that violate our Terms or safety rules.
7. Messages, connections, and activity
We store waves, passes, connections, message content, group chat posts, message timestamps, sender and conversation identifiers, read status, and usage records. Private messages are visible to the sender and recipient; group messages are visible to the members of that room. Some content is temporary by design and is deleted on schedule: circle rooms reset regularly, event chats are deleted when the event ends, and moments expire after 24 hours. Messages may be reviewed if reported, if a safety issue is investigated, if required by law, or if needed to protect the service.
8. Microphone access, voice introductions, and voice messages
We access the device microphone only when you explicitly start a recording — to record a voice introduction for your profile or a voice message inside a chat. Recording starts only after your explicit action and stops when you release the button, cancel, or send. We never record audio in the background or without your action. Voice recordings are encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS), stored on our servers linked to your account or the conversation they belong to, delivered only to their intended audience, and can be deleted by you at any time. Stored voice messages follow the same retention and disappearing-message rules as other messages in that conversation.
9. Safety reports and blocks
When you report a user or a group message, we collect the report reason, optional details, the reported account or content, your account, and related metadata needed to review the issue. Blocking another user limits further interaction across the app according to app functionality.
10. Subscriptions and app store billing
If you buy a subscription, purchase processing is handled by the Apple App Store or Google Play. Moxie receives and stores information needed to verify and maintain your subscription, such as product ID, purchase identifiers, subscription tier, start time, expiration time, active status, and billing event notifications from the store or our billing provider.
11. Push notifications
If push notifications are enabled, we process a device notification token and notification content for events such as waves, connections, group activity, and messages. Message notifications may include a short preview of the sender's message. You can control notifications through your device settings.
12. Service providers
We use trusted service providers for hosting, database, secure media storage, authentication, push notifications, email delivery, app store billing verification, security, diagnostics, domain services, and website delivery. These providers process information only as needed to deliver their services to Moxie and under our instructions where applicable.
13. Legal and safety disclosures
We may disclose information if required by law, to respond to lawful requests, to enforce our Terms, to protect users or the public, to investigate suspected abuse, fraud, or security incidents, or in connection with a business transfer.
14. Data retention
We retain information for as long as needed to provide Moxie, meet legal requirements, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, maintain security, and protect the service. Temporary content — circle rooms, event chats, expired moments — is deleted on its own schedule. When your account is deleted, we aim to delete or de-identify profile information, photos, connections, messages, blocks, reports, and other account data tied to your account, unless retention is needed for legitimate safety, legal, backup, audit, billing, fraud-prevention, or dispute-resolution reasons.
15. Your choices
You can update certain profile details in the app, delete or replace photos, change country preferences, control your World visibility, end mood or radar sessions, block or unblock users, disable push notifications in your device settings, stop using the service, request account deletion, request support, or ask us about access, correction, deletion, or other privacy rights that may apply in your location. Account deletion requests can be made from the app or through the account deletion section on our support page.
16. Children and minors
Moxie is not intended for anyone under 18. If we learn that a person under 18 created an account, we may suspend or delete the account and related information. Contact us if you believe a minor is using Moxie.
17. International use
Your information may be processed in countries where we or our providers operate. Those countries may have privacy laws different from your country of residence.
18. Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. No internet service can guarantee complete security, so you should use a strong password and keep your login details private.
19. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to notify users through the app, website, or other appropriate means.
